The Clay Hog is a trimming knife for the serious student or professional. It has both curving "loop" cutting surfaces and flat profiles which add a degree of precision. The cutters are made from hardened chrome-moly alloy steel and attached to long comfortable aluminium handles. They can either be gripped in the palm of the hand or like a pencil (Japanese style). The cutters can be sharpened with a stone or a diamond file, but using a grinder is discouraged due to the build up of heat, which can affect the temper. Replacement cutters are available (why throw away the whole tool?)
The idea for this design derives from the Japanese kanna, which combines a corner (which acts like a loop tool) and a flat profile. The Clay Hog comes sharp for aggressive trimming in either a pointed version or one with a squared end. The pointed tool is great for trimming flats, as there are no corners to gouge in.
